Help with Mini DV / Firewire port?

so I know if you have a camcorder that records to MiniDV then you can also upload videos to your computer if you have a FireWire port. My question is about the ports. when you buy a new camera that does it come with a cable to connect to this FireWire port? older computers have them do? What are they? and how expensive is that if you need to buy one?

In general, a FireWire cable does not come in the box with the camcorder. – The manufacuters usually include a USB cable – but no FireWire. It's silly. FireWire cables I've seen under $ 10 as they are not expensive. Depends on the computer as to whether they have a FireWire port or not. Most Windows machines do not have a FireWire port – but some do. Depends … On the Macintosh, most of them made in the last 10 years have a FireWire port – but the new MacBook Air and the more recently released MacBook does not … Flat screen, but iMac, MacMinis, PowerBook, MacBook Pro and MacPro everyone would have a FireWire port. There are three FireWire ports. The most common are the 4-pin – this is the same as the DV port on the camcorder. If a laptop with Windows has a FireWire port can be a 4-pin, too. The next most common is the 6-pin. Macintosh computers usually have a 6-pin port FireWire 400. Newer Macs could also have a 9-pin FireWire 800 port. Firewire, i.LINK, DV and IEEE1394 (also known simply as "1394") are the same thing. If the computer has an expansion slot available, can be very cheap if you can use a computer (desktop PCI) or PCMCIA (notebook) card FireWire expansion (less than $ 20). The ExpressCard FireWire expansion cards are more expensive (about $ 80). Go to Wikipedia and search for "FireWire" for see what the different ports and cables seem.
