Is the Samsung SC-D372 MiniDV Camcorder compatible with Windows Vista?
I had a Sony camcorder in the past that was not compatible with Windows Vista Home Premium in my Toshiba Satellite. I want to know if the Samsung SC-D372 MiniDV Camcorder is if I upload video via FireWire. Thanks
All camcorders in consumption are "compatible" with all PC operating systems. Some only need different tools. As you point out, camcorder transfer the miniDV video via FireWire – and connecting the camcorder DV port to the computer's FireWire port … and Firewire, DV, IEEE1394a and i.LINK are all the same thing. The trick is to have a functioning FireWire port, using an appropriate import tool and video editor. All this applies whether Windows or MacOSX. I guess I Sony camcorder like to know what "it was not compatible with Windows Vista Home Premium". If this was a video camera and DVD-based team has drawer load DVD, you only need to download and install a DVD ripper (like Handbrake) to remove the DVD from the disc. If a hard disk or flash memory based on high-definition camcorder, then maybe a video editor (not MovieMaker) can deal with AVCHD files was necessary. If a video camera analog, then an analog / digital bridge like those from Pinnacle or Canopus would have allowed the camera to computer connection. There are other scenarios possible – but none of them is the specific operating system. The operating system actually has little to do with specific compatibility issues camcorder. Can be a combination of hardware (no FireWire port) or software (video editor you need something special) issues, but the system does not work … But you ask Anser directly if the FireWire port to which Toshiba laptop is running and the camera is in play (or VCR) and is also connected to AC power, then MovieMaker should be able to "capture" very well – if not, try to download and install WinDV – seems to do a better job of getting the video cassette MiniDV Digital mmaker the computer does.
