What to buy a JVC Everio GZ-HD40 and Canon HV30 MiniDV HD?

Both are about the same price. I'm trying to shoot some high quality video. (Semi-Pro) My sister tells me that MiniDV will give a better picture quality, but I'm not sure. The Canon has optical image stabilizer. 120 GB 5 hours recording JVC Everio Full HD Power is tempting. Which should I choose?
